Our Story
Located in picturesque, historic Middletown Kentucky, Blu Bakery specializes in bespoke desserts. The cakes, cookies, and pastries are as unique as the 110-year-old building they call home. Wedding cake design, community based interactive workshops and events, exquisite cakes, cookies and pastries, Blu Bakery provides the perfect dessert selection for all your special occasions.
Blu’s passion for baking began generations ago with a young Teri and her Mamaw Newton. Checkerboard cakes and homemade pies lined the kitchen table every Sunday. Captivated by her grandmother’s baking skills, Teri learned the art of beautiful desserts. Throughout the years, Teri passed this knowledge down to her daughter, Kristen. After making desserts for family and friends, they realized that helping people celebrate brought them joy and peace. In 2019, Blu Bakery was born as a registered home-based bakery. The demand quickly grew, and they knew they needed the perfect location to start their first brick and mortar. As fate would have it, in June of 2022 they stumbled upon 11615 Main Street, a beautiful historical building that opened as the First Bank of Middletown in 1910. A peaceful atmosphere was created using the color blue to symbolize the sky on a cloudless day and the gentle waves of a calm ocean. The welcoming environment offers a safe place for guests to enjoy a sweet treat in beautiful surroundings.
Our Team
Teri
Co-Owner, lead decorator, and mother in the mother-daughter duo, Teri has always had a love of baking. She had a dream to one day open a bakery and spread happiness with every cake. You can find her at the bakery in the mornings and on Saturdays decorating our custom cakes. She loves to share her passion of decorating with our community by leading our decorating classes. Her favorite Blu Bakery treat is the cinnamon roll! When she isn’t at the bakery, she loves to spend time with her family, especially her grandson. She enjoys reading and watching baking shows.
Kristen
Co-owner, lead baker, and “the daughter”, Kristen fell in love with baking at a very early age. She grew up following Teri around the kitchen, always helping and learning from her. Kristen is at the bakery throughout the day; baking, managing daily operations and social media, as well as assisting our clients with creating and scheduling orders. Her favorite Blu Bakery treat is the vanilla bean pastry cream. Kristen is an avid reader, and when she isn’t at the bakery, she typically has her nose in a book or is watching true crime documentaries. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends and loves to listen to music.
Casey
Casey is a baker’s assistant and has been with Blu since the beginning. She works on Saturdays and helps with our decorating classes. She is known for her beautiful fruit displays on the galettes! She likes to bake and enjoys helping us create one of a kind custom orders. Casey’s favorite Blu Bakery treat is the chai cupcake. She loves working on puzzles, going for walks with her dog, Chance, and spending time with her husband.
Lexi
Lexi is a baker’s assistant and a budding decorating apprentice. A very skilled and talented artist, Lexi is learning and loving how to apply her knowledge to buttercream and fondant. She is here with the team on Saturdays decorating our custom cake orders. Her favorite item to indulge in at Blu is the vanilla bean pastry cream tart. Lexi loves reading, and watching New Girl.
